The rollout of the Digital PTW App is progressing nicely with more rigs having adopted the digital version throughout Queensland. Currently, 12 rigs have adopted the digital PTW version, and six further rigs are in the process of commencing with using the digital PTW system.
Additionally, four more of our member companies are currently preparing at their corporate level prior to deploying the digital version in the field.
Our infield visits at the rigs in Cooper Basin and Queensland have been really well received. COVID restrictions greatly impeded being able to provide face to face field support, but now that these restrictions have greatly reduced we are scheduling field visits to support rig crew and Operator representatives with face-to-face training on using the App and understanding key points of the App.
The testimony of one Rig Manager following adoption of the digital version was “I was very sceptical and reluctant of using the Digital PTW until you showed us how the system works”.
Some common reports of the most loved features are:
- Cloning permit of repetitive works. It saves us tremendous amount of time.
- Ability to see all active permits on screen.
While users provided plenty of positive feedback, they also provided fantastic improvement ideas for making the App even more user friendly. One of the advantages of a digital version is the speed at which we can implement the improvement suggestions we receive from Users.
As a result of this feedback, in the near future we will be introducing a new feature for capturing photos via portable devices of implemented work precautions and isolations. This can enhance the overall integrity of the process and make the permit review and assurance tasks much easier for Wellsite Permit Authorities and OCRs. The image capturing of work precautions is not mandatory and is available to users if they wish to use it. It will not take up any hard drive space as the images will be only available during the permit draft stage and the App will delete them as soon as the permit is approved and issued.
Some other improvements that are coming soon include:
- The App enables users to report any encountered technical issues by using the built-in “Submit issue” button (see image). We have noticed that some new users are misunderstanding “Submit issue” button with submitting the permit for actions. We will be changing the button description in a version update to something more relevant and understandable for new users.

- Likewise, some new users report than when accessing the instance configuration page from the home page that it isn’t entirely obvious to many users. We have plans to make this more obvious in an updated
